152 Electroy in Administration

Electroy Solar closed their doors on Friday 4 July 2015.
A sad day for all the employees of a great solar power company, and by all reports a top bloke, Troy Hanifin. An unfortunate day for Electroy’s past customers who will no doubt be asking, “What happens to my solar warranty?”

*DISCLAIMER: MC Electrical is not affiliated with Electroy or any other third party sales companies. However, we have been in the solar industry for over 12 years, we know who does good work and who doesn’t.

Is my inverter and solar panel warranty still valid?

A further concern is Electroy was taking on the warranty work for Biosolar (who went into liquidation last year) and Five Star Solar Consultants (who are also now insolvent). Fortunately, most solar panel and inverter manufacturers that these companies used are still trading. Your inverter warranty and solar panel warranty should still be valid. MC Electrical have an experienced solar warranty team and is happy to help out with panel or inverter warranty claims. Generally, a service call will be charged to the customer to diagnose the fault, however, most solar panel and inverter manufacturers cover the cost of the second service call to replace the product. Call Ryan or Mark from our technical department on 07 36070090, or our main line, 07 32683836.

Lessons learnt.

It is alarming how many solar businesses have preceded Electroy and have gone bust, bankrupt, insolvent, into receivership, administration, liquidation or whatever you want to label it. It calls for solar companies once again to examine their business principles. So what can we learn from these companies to ensure the longevity of MC Electrical?

  1. Customer satisfaction. In the age of the internet, customer satisfaction is more important to the success of a business than at any other time in history. Good news travels fast, bad news travels faster. It is our aim that every customer is a raving fan of our MC Electrical – so that they can’t help but tell their friends. On the flip side, mistakes will happen in business, so it is always our aim to address any mistake we make as quickly as possible.
Charging the right price is a big part of customer satisfaction. Ripping people off (BioSolar) will only lead to short-term success while charging too little will not allow for the investment required to run a quality business that will be around to keep their warranty commitments.
  2. Product choice. So many solar businesses have fallen into the trap of importing cheap panels, inverters or isolators. When these products fail in droves, businesses are financially forced to close. The way to avoid this is to stay technically based. Our tagline is”We know solar” – because we focus on researching and testing products – keeping ahead of the curve, and avoiding potential disaster products. Failure to do this, dare I say, was the demise of Five Star Solar Consultants.
  3. Long-term focus. With the ups and downs of the so-called Solar-Coaster, solar companies have often had a short-term focus on their business – as if the sun may not rise next year.  With this mindset, businesses charge on and expand ahead of the ability of their business processes. Everyone who knows Troy speaks highly of him – but it seems it was an insatiable thirst for growth that was his downfall. Longevity, on the other hand, requires passion to be tamed with patience, and quantity curbed with quality.

Our solar panels installed by Electroy in 2015 are totally shot and had to be turned off for safety reasons. Can you tell me the panel warranty on these 20 Phono 250WQ panels?

Hi Sue, If Electroy installed your system, I'm afraid your warranty disappeared when they did. Electroy Phoenixed and came back as IInergy.

Hi Karen. It sounds like it is out of warranty. I'd recommend replacing it with a Fronius, but it will cost you well over $2000. You'll need to contact your local solar company.

My inverter is trying to connect E031 coming up. Internal error. Who the hell do we contact. All customers should have received notification by mail about this liquidation and who to go to for problems. This country is absolutely a bloody joke how they look after citizens.

Hi Christine, good news possibly .... If the panel and inverter manufacturer is still in Australia, you can claim your warranty through them.

The problem is Australia is too dumb and stupid to make their own solar units, there fore they rely on the crap produced in China so as a country we have only our stupid selves to blame.

Hi Cheryl, Sure, call ABB on 02 9735 3111. Abb bought out Aurora (power one) several years ago. Your warranty should be fine with them.

Hi we had electron install our solar in 2014 and now the inverter is blank... looks like no power to it. We were supposed to get an aurora but it is an ABB. Can you advise on the warranty process as it has a five year warranty.

Hi Kevin. I may be wrong, but It sounds like they were taking advantage of you and the generous RECs scheme. They probably put cheap and nasty panels back on your roof, claimed $5000 from in RECs, and $2500 from you. If you call my office on 32683836 and tell them what it is about, I'd be keen to talk to you, find out more, and help you get to the bottom of this. Mark

I had arkana solar group contact me. They came and inspected our system (installed by electroy) and found it was only working half compassity , they replaced all the panels at a cost to me of $2500, shouldn't they be replaced under warranty as it was only 2 years old

Hi Chris, sorry for the late reply. It may not be an issue. In short if you live in the suburbs, it's probably not an issue. If you live out on acreage (with voltage issues) it may be an issue. I explain the potential problem in this blog "Do I need a three phase inverter". If it is a problem, and you have an ABB inverter, we may be able to solve it another way. Otherwise your looking at spending over $2500. If you are in South East Qld, give us a call on 32683836 and we'll be able to help you out. Mark

Hi Mark. We had our 12 panels (3k) system installed by Electroy in June 2015. We were provided with a 1 phase inverter when it appears we need a 3 phase model. We are not getting anywhere near the savings we were promised by the sales guy. Is is possible to swap our current inverter with the more compatible 3 phase inv (our home has a 3 phase supply from the grid) At what cost, if any? Thanks, Chris

Hi Mark. I live on the Central Coast of NSW. Electroy organised the installation of my solar panels in June/July 2015. No problem with that but it seems the inverter installed should have been a 3 phase model. My home has a 3 phase supply. Is it possible to swap over my inverter to a 3 phase model at little (or no) extra cost? We would have been happy to pay the extra if we'd been advised by the sales guy of the advantages. We are only saving $50-$60 per quarter on our electricity bill. Not nearly what we were promised. I notice that the Govnmt is on a campaign to encourage more solar users. I am hoping that something can be done with their help. Thanks, Chris Mason.
